Where It All Began
Long before Tortoise Hare Farm Sanctuary had a name, it began with a little girl who believed every animal deserved gentleness, safety, and a place to call home.
From a young age, JoAnn found herself surrounded by animals who needed her. Dogs, cats, small creatures — any soul in need eventually found their way to her lap. The photo you see here is more than a childhood memory. It’s the beginning of a lifelong promise: to love and protect animals who have nowhere else to go.
Our Mission
Tortoise Hare Farm Sanctuary provides a final resting place for animals who cannot return to the wild, who have aged out of adoptive programs, or who simply need a compassionate landing. We welcome animals of all kinds — with the exception of exotics — and offer them something many have never had:
- A peaceful home for life
- Consistent, loving daily care
- Space to heal physically and emotionally
- A safe environment where they can simply be
Why We’re Building This Sanctuary
After a lifetime of caring for animals, JoAnn recognized a growing need in our community: many animals simply have nowhere to go. Older animals, those with medical needs, those who cannot be adopted — they are often overlooked.
This sanctuary is her way of giving them dignity, comfort, and companionship in their final chapter. It's not a shelter. It’s a promise.
A promise that every life has value. A promise that no animal should feel alone. A promise that healing happens in a place filled with love.
